Black Chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa) is a deciduous shrub that can be grown in many kinds of soil, including wet soil. Occasionally, it can be found in the wild growing in dry areas. It grows best in full sun.
The name comes from the color of the berries (bluish black) to the tart, bitter taste of the fruits that might make you spit it out if eaten raw. I do not recommend eating them raw.
Its fruit is sometimes used to make jams and jellies. There are no serious insect or disease problems associated with Black Chokeberry.
