Short-Leaf Pine (Pinus echinate) is the only native pine tree to Missouri, typically found in the upland, rocky areas of the Ozark region. It has light to dark green needles. It can form a deep taproot, which can help it withstand some drought. It will produce it’s brown cones (which contain its seeds), around year 20.
Few problems attack the tree.
Height range: 50-60 feet
Spread range: 20-35 feet
Bloom Time and Color: Evergreen; nonflowering
Ideal soil type: Well-drained, somewhat sandy soils; tolerates drier soils
Sun Requirements: Full sun (8 + hrs per day)
