Shumard Oak (Quercus shumardii) is a medium-sized deciduous tree from the red oak group. Its leaves will be notably pointy at the ends, while white oaks have rounded leaves. Shumard oaks are great shade trees and are grown around St. Louis, often found on drier sites. It is generally a long-lived tree. Acorns begin to form around year 25.

Ideal soil type: Tolerates many different soil types; dry to medium in wetness
